Ensuring Integrity in Accreditation

A core role for JAS-ANZ is to ensure the integrity of the accreditation systems.

When things are going well you barely notice that JAS-ANZ is involved. However when problems occur JAS-ANZ needs to act immediately to resolve the situation in order to maintain the integrity of the accreditation system.

Very recently JAS-ANZ faced a situation where JAS-ANZ accredited certificates may have been sold in an overseas market. This is an extremely serious situation and JAS-ANZ acted immediately. Some of the actions JAS-ANZ undertook were:

  • On becoming aware of the situation a senior JAS-ANZ team (Manager Accreditation Services and the Client Manager) immediately visited the Australian office of the Conformity Assessment Body (CAB) whose certificates were potentially involved to gain a more detailed understanding of  the situation.
  • All certificates potentially affected by the situation were withdrawn and a system for reassessing each certificate individually was implemented.
  • No new certificates were to be issued by the CAB in that market.
  • A senior JAS-ANZ person flew to the country and visited the CAB's office to gain a first hand understanding of the situation.
  • JAS-ANZ placed an advertisement in a leading newspaper in the country to inform the market that it was aware of the situation and the steps it was undertaking.
  • JAS-ANZ continues to closely monitor the situation.

JAS-ANZ is also taking steps to review its processes with the aim of reducing the chances of this situation occurring in the future.
