The Health Care Services Management System (HCSMS) Scheme Part 1 – Common requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of health care service management systems establishes common requirements for certification of the management systems implemented by providers of a wide range of health care services.
Part 2 (and onwards) of this scheme provide additional requirements for certification of management systems for providers of a particular type of health care service. If a conflict arises between Part 1 and another part, the requirements in the other part take precedence. Each part has its own information page.
The healthcare certification standards used by subsequent parts of this scheme have been developed by the relevant scheme owners. More parts may be added as scheme owners for other types of health care services come on board.
CABs cannot apply for accreditation to Part 1 in isolation. However, each subsequent part calls up Part 1, thus an application for accreditation to (say) Part 2 will include an application for Part 1 (unless the applicant is already accredited by JAS-ANZ for another part of the HCSMS Scheme).
As a management systems scheme, all applicants also need to comply with ISO/IEC 17021:2011 – Conformity Assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems.
- Standardising accreditation requirements as far as possible across a broad industry sector is more efficient and reliable.
Each of the scheme owners for the subsequent parts has input to developing and maintaining Part 1.
