The Designated Auditing Agency scheme has been developed by the New Zealand Ministry of Health. Under the Health and Disability Services (Safety) Act 2001, hospitals, rest homes and homes for people requiring health or disability services must be certified. As part of the certification process a provider must be audited by a designated auditing agency against the applicable Health and Disability Services Standards (NZS 8134:2008)
Applicant CABs will need to apply to the New Zealand Ministry of Health to become a designated auditing agency, and comply with the Ministry’s requirements as outlined in its Designated Auditing Agency Handbook (revised 2015). New applications for designation may take several months to process.
As this is a management systems scheme, applicants also need to comply with ISO/IEC 17021:2011 – Conformity Assessment – Requirements for bodies providing audit and certification of management systems.
- Allows consumers to monitor and compare the performance of hospitals, rest homes and homes for people requiring health or disability services.
- Enables certified hospitals, rest homes and homes for people requiring health or disability services to demonstrate that their services meet relevant regulatory requirements.
