The scheme is based on the CertiSource Legality Standard for Indonesia CLAS 4.03 and associated CertiSource Policies, which together make up the CertiSource Legality Verification System. The scheme verifies the legality of timber products, as opposed to auditing the harvest and production processes of separate entities along the supply chain. The scheme is specific to Indonesian timber and timber products.

Timber and timber products must be traceable through supply chains where every entity (forests, sawmills and traders) adheres to strict legal, social and environmental criteria. The scheme goes beyond basic legal requirements and puts forest concessions and sawmills on the road to sustainable forest management.

The CertiSource Legality Standard for Indonesia CLAS 4.03 was published 19 January 2015 and reflects the latest Indonesian regulations.

Applicants CABs will need to comply with the requirements under ‘Verifier’ in the CertiSource Legality Standard for Indonesia CLAS 4.03, and the relevant CertiSource Policies.

As this is a product scheme, applicants need to comply with ISO/IEC 17065:2012 – Conformity assessment - Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services.

  • Demonstrates that Indonesian timber and timber products products have been produced in accordance with applicable legislation from forests where sustainable management is encouraged.
  • Adds value to Indonesian timber and timber products by allowing purchasers to choose products based on legality and environmental considerations.
