Australian Community Industry Certification Scheme (ACICS: 2018)

The Australian Community Industry Certification Scheme - Requirements for bodies certifying attendant care service providers (ACICS:2018) and the associated certification standard Australian Community Industry Standard (ACIS:2018), were developed by the Attendant Care Industry Association (ACIA, doing business as the Australian Community Industry Association) to support service providers delivering community support services.

Community support services encompasses services commonly delivered at a person’s home or in their community to enable them to live independently. Such services include: nursing care, personal assistance, domestic services, community access, vocational support, educational support, child care services, gardening/home maintenance, respite care, palliative care, social support and therapy program support.

ACICS:2018 and ACIS:2018 supersede the Attendant Care Industry Certification Scheme (ACICS:2013) and Attendant Care Industry Standard (ACIS:2013), respectively. Community support services already certified to ACIS:2013 have two years to be achieve accredited certification to ACIS:2018.

Applicant CABs will need to comply with ACICS:2018. As a product scheme, applicants will also need to comply with ISO/IEC 17065:2012 – Conformity assessment - Requirements for bodies certifying products, processes and services.

Benefits

  • Enables certified attendant care providers to demonstrate their ability to meet the industry benchmark.
  • Provides confidence and assurance that service providers will deliver improved and more consistent services.
  • ACIS:2018 is intended to have a degree of overlap with other reputable standards, such as the National Standards for Disability Services, and the NDIS Practice Standards. Organisations achieving accredited certification to ACIS:2018 can be more confident of their readiness to achieve accredited certification to these other standards.
